Shaykhul Islaam Ahmad ibn Taymeeyah 728AH (May Allah have mercy on him) said,

وإذا كان في المسلمين ضعفوكان عدوهم مستظهرًا عليهم كان ذلك بسبب ذنوبهم وخطاياهم إما لتفريطهم في أداء الواجبات باطنًا وظاهرًا

“If the Muslims are weak and their enemies have gained an upper hand against them, then this is a result of their sins whether it is by their neglectfulness in establishing obligatory matters both inwardly (having the correct belief) and/or outwardly (like prayer, fasting, zakah, etc).”

  لطائف المعارف فيما للمواسم من وظائف

Abu Bakr al-Balkhi said:

“The Month of Rajab is the Month for planting the seeds; the Month of Sha3baan is the month of watering the seeds and the month of Ramadhan is the month of reaping the fruits.

قال مالك بن دينار خرج أهل الدنيا من الدنيا ولم يذوقوا أطيب شيء فيها قيل وما هو قال معرفة الله تعالى

Malik bin Dinar said: “The people of the world depart from the world without them having tasted the most beautiful thing from it.” It was said, “And what is it?” He replied, “The Ma’rifah of Allaah [knowledge of His names, attributes, actions and their interplay and connection to the creation].”
