What follows is a summary of the story concerning the events that occurred at the time of Musa عليه السلام; the victory Allah provided to His messenger and the destruction of the Pharoah. It is summarised from a khutba delivered by Shaikh Mohammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen.

“In this month of Muharram was the salvation of Musa عليه السلام and his people from Pharoah and his army. Allah سبحانه و تعالى had sent him with clear evidences and proofs upon his prophethood, yet the Pharoah was arrogant and haughty and claimed, “I am your lord, most high” [An-Naazi’aat:24]. Musa عليه السلام came to him with great signs and called him to tawhid, to the tawhid of the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth yet Pharoah said in arrogance, “And what is the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?”[Ash-Shu’ara:23].  (more…)

◆ The Virtue of Fasting on `Aashooraa’◆

the-best-fast-after-ramadan

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم: “The most excellent fast after the month of Ramadan is (the fasting in) the month of Allaah, Al-Muharram…” [Saheeh Muslim]

After Ramadhaan, the best month for fasting is al-Muharram
And the best day in it…is the Day of `Aashooraa’

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked about fasting on `Aashooraa’. So he  صلى الله عليه وسلم  said:“I hope from Allaah that fasting on the day of Aashooraa’ may atone for the sins of the preceding year.” [Saheeh Muslim]

And fasting on the 9th Muharram along with the 10th is better.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“For fasting the day of ‘Ashoora, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.”

[Reported by Muslim, 1976]

Don’t forget to fast on the day of Ashoora (10th of Muharram) plus to fast a day before it  which is the (Taasu’a: 9th of Muharram) or after which is the (11th  of Muharram) to be different from the Jews.

:

:

Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram.” [Muslim].

Imam An-Nawawi said commenting on this hadeeth: Some people think these words stand to mean that `he will observe Saum on the 9th of Muharram only. But this interpretation does not agree with other Ahadith. In order to oppose the Jews, he ﷺ resolved to observe one more Saum with that of 10th of Muharram and ordained it for the Muslims.

NOTE: The 10th of Muharram (‘Ashoora) 1435H will fall on Thursday 14th, November 2013:

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to fast on this day to have last year’s sins, as well as this year’s*,, forgiven. We should fast it and a day before it, or a day after it, to oppose the practice of the Jews who fast on this day alone. [Arabic message from the Muftee of Saudi Arabia.]

*CORRECTION: Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah expiates two years’ sins, not the Day of ‘Aashooraa’.

Bismillahi wal Hamdullillah was Salaatu Was salaamu ‘alaa rasoolillahi,
Ammaa Ba’d:

Since this fast of Aashooraa falls within the beginning of the winter months here is a benefit concerning the virtue and blessing of fasting during winter.

Upon the authority of Anas ibn Maalik – Radhiyallahu Anhu – who said that the Messenger – Sallallahu ‘alahi was Salam said:
“Fasting during winter is the Cool Ghaneemah (spoils of war)”
(Collected by Imaamut Tabaraani in ‘Mu’jam Al Awsat’ and declared ‘Hasan’ By Shaikh Al Albaani in Silsilatul Ahaadeethus Saheehah: 1922)

Concerning the meaning of the Hadeeth Imaam Manaawi mentioned:
“Meaning it is that thing by way of which one may recieve pardon (from Allah) without difficulty, due to the shortness of the days and their coolness and there being no (pressing) need for food and drink (as is the case in the winter months)”
(At Tayseer 2/208)

He mentions elsewhere:
Meaning that fasting during winter is resemblant to recieving spoils of war in cool periods. The factor that is present within both affairs is that one obtains benefit without effort
(At Tayseer 2/320)

Therefore let us capitalise upon this great blessing from Allah Subhaanah and take the ease that Allah has blessed us with from his mercy.

Wa Sallallahu ‘Alaa Nabiyinaa Muhammad

Ashoorah on Tuesday

Ref:  http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentID=20111202113101

” Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, has said the day of fasting for Ashoura,
Muharram 10, falls on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Sheikh Aal Al-Sheikh called this a way out of arguments that the crescent
was not sighted to mark the beginning of Muharram.
He said Saturday therefore was the last day of Dhul Hijjah and Sunday the first of Muharram.

Hence, the 9th and 10th of Muharram – days on which Muslims are recommended to fast –
fall on Monday (Dec. 5) and Tuesday (Dec. 6) respectively.”

9th Muharram 1433= Monday 5th December 2011
10th Muharram 1433 = Tuesday 6th December 2011
11th Muharram 1433= Wednesday 7th December 2011
