Al-Allaamah Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him) stated:

“Likewise (from the beneficial matters of Hajj) is the Du’aa of ‘Arafah.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned:

“The best Du’aa, is the Du’aa of ‘Arafah. The best of that which myself and the Prophets before me have said is: –

Laa Ilaaha Illallaah Wahdahu Laa Shareeka Lahu, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa Huwa Alaa Kulli Shay In Qadeer

– None has the right to be worshiped except Allaah, who is alone without partners. For Him is the dominion and the praise. He is capable of doing all things.”

(Musnad of Ahmad and Sunan of At-Tirmidhee Declared good by Shaykh Al-Albaani)

This is the best of that which the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said and He named it the Du’aa of ‘Arafah. That is because the Du’aa is of two types:

1. Du’aa of worship. The statement ((Laa Ilaaha Illallaah)) is the Du’aa of worship and praise for Allaah. All of this is the Du’aa of worship.

2. Du’aa of request. It is that you ask Allaah to forgive you, to have mercy upon you, or that you ask that He provides for you, guides you, make you firmly established (upon the religion of Islaam), forgive your parents, forgive your children and forgive your brothers… This is the Du’aa of request and it is that you ask Allaah (for that which you are seeking).

The example of this is the statement of Allaah:

“You (Allaah) alone we worship and You (Allaah) alone we seek for help”
(Faatihah: 5)

So the statement “You (Allaah) alone we worship” this is the Du’aa of worship. The statement “You (Allaah) alone we seek for help”, this is the Du’aa of request. Therefore, we have in one verse the Du’aa of worship and the Du’aa of request.”

Chapter Nine : On the Day of ‘Arafah

There is no doubt that the day of ‘Arafah is a great day from the blessed days of Allaah and is a large gathering from the gatherings of goodness, Eemaan and Taqwaa. It is a season which is welcomed with great importance. A season from the seasons of obedience and worship, a day where the shedding of tears increases, where there are continuous supplications, where mercy descends and shortcomings are rectified, a day where mistakes are forgiven, a day of hope and humility, submissiveness and humbleness.

Indeed it is a noble blessed day. The sun never rose on a day better than the day of ‘Arafah. Indeed it has been specified with noble merits, great privileges and important characteristics. It is no easy…

Indeed it is a noble blessed day. The sun never rose on a day better than the day of ‘Arafah. Indeed it has been specified with noble merits, great privileges and important characteristics. It is no easy task to encompass all its characteristics, nor is it possible to fully investigate them all.

Indeed it is the day on which Allaah completed this Deen for the Ummah and completed His favour for them, as on that day the saying of Allaah Ta’ala was revealed:

The day of ‘Arafah this year (9th Dhul Hijjah 1437) corresponds with Sunday 11th September 2016.

Allāh The Most High said:

“And by the Promised Day, And by the witness and by what is witnessed.”

[Surah Burooj: 2-3]

Abu Hurayrah (radiallaahu ‘anhu) said that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:

“The Promised Day is the Day of Resurrection; and the day which is witnessed is: the day of ‘Arafah; and the witness is: the day of Friday. And the sun has not risen nor has it set upon a day that is better than it. In it is an hour in which a believing servant does not coincide supplicating to Allaah for good – except that Allaah will answer him; and nor does he seek refuge from anything except Allaah will grant him refuge from it.”

[Sahih Sunan at-Tirimidhi (no.3339)]

*Some Virtues of Yawmul ‘Arafah*

🌟 It is the day that Allāh perfected for us the religion;

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion..” [Surah Ma’idah:3]

🌟 Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah expiates the sins of two years;

Abee Qatadah said that the Prophet was asked concerning fasting on ‘Arafah and he said:

“It expiates the sins of the previous year as well as the following year.”

[Reported by Muslim (no.1250)]

🌟 Allāh sets free many from the Fire;

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:

“There is no day in which Allāh sets free more slaves from the hell fire than He does on the day of ‘Arafah.”

[Reported by Muslim (no.1277)]

Shaykh Fawzan hafidhullaah:

“So it is from the Sunnah for the non-pilgrims that they fast on the day of ‘Arafah for those who are in distant lands and so they fast this day as it is a virtuous day and so they should busy themselves with remembrance of Allaah and making supplication and seeking forgiveness within it.”

From ‘Amr ibn Shu’aib who said from his father who said from his grandfather that the Prophet said:

“The best supplication is the supplication of the day of ‘Arafah; and the best of that which I and the Prophets before me said is:
Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer.”

[Sahih Sunan at-Tirmidhi (no.3585)]
